Adult Matric
What is Adult Matric?
Adult Matric is the Senior Certificate (Amended) programme that allows adults to complete their Matric. Matric College offers this course, in English or Afrikaans, via distance learning where you can choose 6 subjects you want to study and they will send you coursework and study materials to prepare you before writing your Senior Certificate (Amended) final examinations set by the Department of Basic Education.
Entry requirements
The entry requirements for the Adult Matric Course at Matric College is:
- You must be 21 or older when you write your Adult Matric Exams. You can apply as early as 19 years old for this course.
- You can read, write and understand English or Afrikaans
- You passed Grade 9 and have proof of certificate or report OR
- You passed a Grade 9 equivalent course (ie. an ABET Certificate) that has two official language subjects
Matric Upgrade
What is Matric Upgrade?
The Matric Upgrade course is available to students who want to improve the Matric marks they received when they wrote Matric Exams. Matric College offers this course, in English or Afrikaans, via distance learning where students can choose subjects they previously wrote or study one or two new subjects. Choosing new subjects can allow you to add those results to the existing Matric Certificate you have.
Please note that if you passed with a Bachelors Pass on your Matric Certificate and want to study a new subject to add to your Matric Certificate, you can still apply for this course. However, you will receive a second Matric Certificate that you can use to submit along with your first Matric Certificate when applying for further Higher Education or jobs.

The entry requirements for the Matric Upgrade Course at Matric College is:
- You already completed Matric
- You have an incomplete matric report OR a failed matric report from Umalusi Or a passed Matric Certificate from Umalusi
- Must be 21 or older when you write your Matric Upgrade exams. You can apply as early as 19 years old for this course.
- You can read, write and understand English or Afrikaans
Matric Equivalent
What is Matric Equivalent?
Matric College offers Matric Equivalent Courses that are on the same NQF (National Qualifications Framework) level as Matric, Adult Matric and Matric Upgrade.
Here are 2 Matric Equivalent Courses offered:
- Small Business Financial Management: National Certificate
- Bookkeeping: Further Education and Training Certificate
Please note that you have to first complete the Bookkeeping National Certificate NQF level 3 before you can complete the Matric Equivalent Bookkeeping: Further Education and Training Certificate.
Entry requirements
The entry requirements for the 2 Matric Equivalent Courses are the same and is:
- You have a Grade 10 report or Certificate (or a bridging course certificate if you do not have Grade 11 to complete the Small Business Financial Management: National Certificate Course)
- You are 16 years or older
- You are able to learn via distance learning
- You understand and can study in English
